Take a look at this article before you spend money on the Fisher-Price Rainforest Melodies and Lights Deluxe Gym. It’s obvious the market is packed with gyms for baby.
So, how are you supposed to find the right one? Well, let me try to make that decision easier for you. Let’s take a look at this product’s features and benefits quickly.
Features and Benefits
This baby gym is supposed to stimulate your growing baby through a mixture of nature sounds, lights, textures, games and music. Sound good, right? It can play 20 minutes of music that is activated by the parent, and it offers 8 to 12 seconds of music and lights when in ‘baby’ mode.
It has a floor quilt that features colorful arches and silky borders. It has rattling beads, a shiny mirror, spinning butterflies, stationary activities and plenty of toys. Unlike many other baby gyms, this model has three different modes of operation.
Each mode is made for a specific mood, so baby will have something to enjoy, regardless of what mood he or she is in. When the first mode is playing, any movement will activate 12 seconds of music and lights. Apparently, this first mode is supposed to help teach baby about the forces of cause and effect.
The music mode is the second mode, which plays up to 20 minutes of continuous music. The purpose of this mode is to develop baby’s auditory senses. The third mode is the rainforest mode, which also plays 20 minutes of continuous music, except this music is only rainforest sounds.
I’ve listened to these sounds before, and I can vouch for the fact that they help ANYONE relax. If they can help me relax, then they’re certainly going to be effective for baby.
Let me give some pros and cons of this product. First, the flashing lights and music are certainly enjoyable. The detachable monkey that this baby gym has seems to be loved by ALL babies. The quilt has such a vibrant, enjoyable design that baby likes to stare at it often.
One of the problems with this gym is the lack of toys. Although the manufacturer description talks of toys, there simply aren’t enough. Although it wouldn’t stop me from buying, there are many baby gyms that come with many more toys.
Unfortunately, the giraffe mirror is pointing in the wrong direction. The position the mirror is pointing makes it virtually impossible for baby to use. Also, there seems to be a risk of the mirror falling out, so it’s a good idea to keep an eye on it when possible.
Although I unintentionally made it seem like this baby gym has many more downsides then benefits, there is a reason why this product is a bestseller on Amazon.
In fact, out of almost 1,000 customer reviews, this product has about 900 of them as 4 and 5-star reviews. Bottom line – both babies and their parents really enjoy this gym. Overall, at its current price, I would definitely say this is a great product for baby.
